HEV Testing Methods Webinar

While there is still a sizable lack of regulatory guidance, numerous studies have pointed to Blue Light or High Energy Visible Light (HEV) being a hazard to the human eye. Gregory W. Good, O.D., PhD examines serval of human eye studies and how they relate to the global population in his Light and Eye Damage discussion article with the American Optometric Association. [1] Increasingly further research is being conducted to find the hazards that HEV has on human skin.[2,3] As a result, many companies have begun to advertise products that claim HEV blocking capability. To date, there are no industry standard protocols/guidelines for how these claims are to be verified. HEV is performed to measure the HEV Blocking potential of a sunscreen formula after irradiation with a UV dose of 200 J/cm2. This testing method will produce graphs of the test product’s Absorbance from 400-500nm. The HEV report will provide the HEV Critical Wavelength before and after irradiation, the test products photostability ratio, the % blocking potential of total HEV 400-500nm, and the % blocking potential of hazardous blue-light 415-455nm.

This webinar has been put together as an educational session to help formulators and manufacturers understand the pertinent details behind HEV testing methods.

After attending this webinar, participants will be in a better position to make educated and informed decisions based on the data they will receive from this type of testing and analysis that best fits their needs and product development goals.
